Honors SOCL 320 Sociology of Education

This class was very interesting and unlike anything I have done before. Honors Sociology of Education delved into the origin and growth of education in the United States and in the world. The most interesting aspect of this class was the interview project which was a collaborative project done with the entire class. I conducted a professional interview with an elementary teacher where I asked her about her experiences teaching in the pandemic. I have never conducted a professional interview before, so this was a whole new experience for me. I reflected upon my interview and know I can improve on taking more control of the direction the interview takes. After my classmates and I interviewed our teachers, we broke off into groups and were assigned a section to highlight for our research showcase presentation. My group expanded on the immediate change from class instruction to emergency online teaching. After all the groups collaborated in constructing a PowerPoint, we recorded ourselves as we presented our findings. I learned a lot about the structure and pressures placed upon education in our country, have a glimpse to the effects it places on it’s teachers. Although the interview project took a lot of work, I learned so much about my future profession and enjoyed learning about everything

This was the presentation my class held during the online Student Showcase Research Fair. We prerecorded our presentation. Each group of students explained a different experience teachers faced pre-pandemic, the transition, during the pandemic, and their thoughts about the future. This was a very interesting project and I took a lot of work. It is an experience I will never forget.
