Advanced Archaeology is a course that seeks to teach advanced skills used on archaeological field sites. Dr. Bates gave us the chance to use actual field methods and learn skills that could give us advantages as we head into the field. One skill we were taught was how to use a compass. In Cultural Resource Management, having the ability to use a compass can give you a significant pay raise in your starting salary. We also practiced methods of research and writing in which we picked a topic of choice and completed an 8-page paper at the end of the semester. This was a way to practice using research in our futures as well!
