Service is one of the most human acts we can do. By giving to others without expecting in return, we are able to be fully selfless. Service can be volunteering, community service, or simply helping someone around you. Longwood and the Cormier Honors College encourage students every day to serve others. The spirit of CHI embodies this idea of service without seeking for yourself.
Through my organizations, I have been able to spend lots of time completing service. During my freshman year, I volunteered for the Longwood Center for the Visual Arts gala as a coat check. I planned on completing more service as the year ended, however, COVID-19 made that almost impossible. Luckily, I was able to volunteer for the Big Event at the end of my Junior year. For the event, I cleaned the yard of an elderly community member who was unable to finish the work herself. SEAL has allowed me to complete more service projects because we believe that to lead is to serve.
