Religion and Literature was the first class I took with Dr. Blincoe. Throughout my time in his class, he stressed the importance of leisure to create a fulfilling life. I always believed leisure could consist of watching television or mindlessly scrolling through my phone. I never equated leisure to being disconnected. A requirement for Dr. Blincoe’s class was to complete weekly leisure activities such as reading and walking. It seemed ridiculous to me, in the beginning, to be forced to participate in leisure. I didn’t realize then that I never truly disconnected and let my mind be free. I now try to implement disconnected leisure time in my daily life and recognize how important it is to be totally free from the world, even for a few minutes each day.
