Scholarship

Grades have always been something that I take pride in. So far, out of my eighteen years of school, I have received three B’s, one freshman year of High School, one during my summer statistics course between my Freshman and Sophomore year of College, and the last one during my Junior year of College. I have an overall GPA of 3.89. Although this is not a 4.0, it is pretty close, and I am very proud of myself. My goal is to maintain this and keep a A streak going. Although receiving a B is heartbreaking to me, I know a B is not a bad thing, which has took me a while to learn.

I have learned that grades are not the most important part about school and education. The key to a good education is the knowledge gained and lessons learned. I have had many good teachers that have taught me this. I strive to learn as much as I can with every single class that I take. Firstly, it’s important to learn a variety of different material both in your major and in all other classes outside of it, because you never know when you will use it in your life, and it can be useful in many different ways throughout your life. Secondly, the lessons learned throughout each class, and throughout school in general, is almost equally important. School has taught me so much and has made me into the girl I am today, and I am forever grateful. Society usually associates scholarship with academic success and how well someone does in school. With this, schools and the career fields mainly focus so heavily on the grades of a class rather than focusing on giving students the best platform to succeed and the best areas to gain the most knowledge.

My mom is a teacher and is such a big inspiration in my life that was taught me what true scholarship is. I view scholarship as an area to where I can educate myself on the classes I take in school but also on world issues and life lessons. I strive to be the best leader that I can be and with this comes knowledge of all sort of topics that cover mental illnesses, world issues, leadership skills, success and failure, and many more things. I have learned this through both my academic and athletic experiences. Scholarship help provide a platform for success for all individuals, including myself, in so many different aspects of the world and are very important in forward growth. After my first year at Longwood, I believe it will help set this scholarship platform for myself, and I am beyond excited to see all the places I go, people I help and things I accomplish with Longwood University by my side.
