Honors Course 7: Enhancement of Advanced Exercise Testing

Exploring a different population outside my comfort zone, I agreed to assist in a study that looked at heart rate and VO2max of female, recreational Irish dancers. Typically I prefer to study the general population, as they are most likely the clientele I will be working with in my future career. However, this study allowed me to gain experience using new testing equipment and look into a population I would have never considered on my own. The data gathered from this study suggests that Irish dance is not only physiologically demanding both aerobically and  anaerobically but that it is also comparable to biking and running. By analyzing the results from this study, exercise physiologists can prescribe more effective training programs to enhance performance.
