For this goal, I have chosen to use my third and final paper of the semester as I feel it plays a direct role in demonstrating the intended outcome of the course as well as shows my progression. For our final exam, we were asked to write a paper in which we were to discuss whether or not we believed we had achieved the following goals:
- Understand the differences that audience, purpose, and/or context produce for researched academic writing.
- Sources:
- Explain the importance of sources in researched writing.
- Integrate primary/secondary source materials in specific writing tasks.
- Produce writing that adheres to citation guidelines fitting a specific discipline.
- Employ academic writing strategies such as planning, drafting, and revising.
- Produce clear prose in Edited American English.
Before taking English 150, I knew that I enjoyed writing and, for the most part, was good at it, but this class allowed me to expand on my skills and develop a more professional tone in my work. After this course I feel more comfortable not only in my citations and formatting but also in my ability to create a well-thought out, consistent, and coherent argument.
