I chose to use my Outreach Observation paper as my artifact because this assignment had the most impact on my time here at Longwood thus far. I had the extraordinary opportunity to volunteer at the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). During the open house, several other girls and I were asked to simply go around to the different buildings and play with the animals. By doing this, we were helping in domesticating these animals as most of them have either been raised in the wild or abused and therefore are unaccustomed to human contact.  By being around them, we are gradually helping them into a more calm and relaxed state which makes them safe for adoption into a happy home. The prevention of animal cruelty is a passionate subject for me. My family and I have adopted three German Shepards over the past couple years from kill shelters and have been able to provide them with a warm, happy home. Over the course of my years at Longwood and hopefully for the rest of my life I would like to continue to volunteer and donate either my time or money to non-kill shelters. Just as every person deserves love, so does every pet.
