Goal 9: Diversity

This goal was satisfied by my study abroad program to Valencia, Spain. While there, I had the amazing opportunity to live with a host family where I was able to first hand learn about the language and Spanish traditions. As part of the program we traveled to various cities like Granada, Cordoba, and Segovia, where we saw incredible architecture that shared elements from not only different artistic eras, but also from different religious influences. Every week we were asked to complete an assignment known as a Pregunta del Dia, where we asked native Spaniards about their traditions, festivals, or opinions. Never in my life did I think I would be given the chance to travel abroad and actually use a language I had studied for the past 8 years, but I am so grateful that Longwood and the Cormier Honors College made it possible for me.

The pictures below are just a couple of photos I took while in Spain. The top left is the Cathedral of Valencia, the top right is the La Mezquita, the bottom left is the La Alhambra, and the bottom right are some sculptures from the festival, Las Falles.
