COMM 280- Fundamentals of Public Relations

I took this course (at the time) as a major elective. However, after some consideration I made the decision to switch my concentration from Digital Media to Public Relations. So now this course goes towards my required credits for my major.

After taking this course I became much more interested in the Public Relations field and wanted to learn more. It has a business aspect but is still very hands on and creative, which I like a lot.

During this course I learned the basics of Public Relations and what it entails. While this information was very useful, I also learned something I wasn’t expecting. For this course, we were required to work in groups for several assignments. I personally like working independently so at first this was a challenge for me. With that being said, having to work with others on projects really helped me gain more perspectives and insights. In Public Relations and in life, being able to collaborate with others is so important. I know in any job I have in the future it will require me to work with others, so I am thankful for the group projects I did in this course.

One example of a group project I did is below. My partner and I were told to come up with a campaign using a well established brand or business. We were to research the brand we chose and match the campaign with the mission of the brand. For this project, my partner and I chose to do our campaign with Anthropologie about women’s self image. Final Comm 280 Presentation
