CTZN 110- Bodies and Citizens

My experience with this course was interesting to say the least. The topics covered in this course were different from anything I have ever learned before. I have heard people say that attending college should broaden one’s horizons and make them go out of their comfort zone. By taking this course, I think I can successfully say I agree with the above statement.

I’ll be honest, some of the topics covered in this class I didn’t particularly enjoy. I know that a student isn’t always supposed to enjoy every single class they take, but I also found some of the topics a little irrelevant. Meaning, I am not sure if and when I will use the knowledge gained in this course in my everyday life or in the future. Most of the concepts covered, consisted of taking a different approach to understanding citizenship in a way that was a little hard for me to follow. I guess when you have preexisting ideas on a topic, its hard for one’s thoughts to sway or change. However, I will say I was open to all of the topics covered in this course, even if I didn’t necessarily agree with them.

This course not only taught me to have a more open mind but also taught me a great deal regarding planning. The document below is part of my final project for this course. The purpose of this assignment was to create a possible course related to bodies and citizens. While most of my peers did their projects on topics like, birth control, illegal immigrants and so on, I chose another approach. I did my project on public shaming and how it relates to different groups of peoples sense of citizenship. I chose seven different groups of people with varying time periods and explained how there experiences impacted their sense of citizenship. By completing this assignment, it taught me how planning things out is super important when dealing with big projects and this will further help in the future with other time consuming projects.
