Community

Since I started attending Longwood, the word “community” has also taken on a new meaning for me. While at Longwood, everyone can tell there is a strong sense of community here. That was one of the major reasons why I chose to go to Longwood in the first place, because I could tell that the faculty and professors really cared about students and their well-being. Community to me, now means totally inclusiveness. Since I’ve been at Longwood, I really feel apart of a family. Anywhere I go on campus I always encounter friendly and inviting people and that really means a lot to me. Starting college was a very scary idea to me, I truly believe Longwood’s strong sense of community greatly helped me adjust better to a completely new lifestyle.

As I mentioned before, community changed in meaning to me since coming to Longwood. I used to think the word “community” only meant like a neighborhood community or just a group of people in general. Upon starting my journey at Longwood, I know believe community can mean being a part of something bigger than yourself. I believe it means making a difference in someone else’s life as a group (like my example from the HSA meeting) and coming together for a common good cause. Community is a strong bond that cannot be broken, no matter how much one tries.
