Service

Throughout the academic year, the Honors College sends out weekly headlines including various opportunities for service, not just within the Honors College, but in theĀ  community. Having these headlines has allowed me to get involved in the community through service. Without the Honors College, it would have been more difficult to find opportunities to volunteer at events such as the High Bridge 5K/Half Marathon and events at the LCVA. The Honors College has brought the events happening around the community and on campus to my attention, allowing me to become more of a leader.

Within the Honors College specifically, there are also MANY service opportunities that I have been lucky to take part in. As soon as honors students enter Longwood, there is a service retreat that kick starts the passion for service that I have obtained. The Honors College also puts on a perspective students weekend and allows students to volunteer for the event. Volunteering at these events gives students great leadership opportunities and shows them that service can be accomplished anywhere on and off campus. Even picking up a piece of trash is an act of service and can better the community as a whole.
