COMM 200- Introduction to Communication Theory

Since I am a Communications Studies major, I started taking courses toward my major during my first year of college. Throughout the course of my first year of college, I completed a total of 4 courses that went towards my major. Introduction to Communication Theory was one of my favorite courses I took.

I enjoyed this course so much because I was genuinely interested in the content of the class. It made me think harder about the media and how it really effects people. I also really liked my professor in this class. She was always very upbeat and enthusiastic about teaching us the material of the course.

This class really broadened my horizons about the media and what its purpose really is. It also made me think more in depth in how the media effects my life and everyone else’s everyday, but we just don’t realize it.

Throughout this course we obviously covered different theories within communication and the media and how some overlap others. One of my favorite papers I have ever written was an assignment for this class. We had to pick a communication interaction of our choice, explain it using 2 constructs we covered in class, then find a scholarly journal relating to our chosen interaction and/or the constructs. I wrote about rush week in sororities and am very proud of it, it’s the document below.
