NURS 315: Nutrition- Health and Disease

NURS 315 provided me with a foundation in nutrition with an emphasis on the relationship among nutrition, food, and the environment and how they impact the health and wellbeing of individuals. It included social, religious, and cultural factors of how nutrition affects ones health. Throughout this course I was able to understand how to develop a nutritional plan of care to meet the needs of my patients who may have various disease processes using evidence based practices. This course was beneficial in that nutrition has a major impact on one’s healing process and it is important for me, as a nurse, to understand the nutritional implications and needs for my patient and their disease process. In this course we completed many activities that allowed me to learn the material and how to apply it in clinical practice. Within each class period we completed group assignments, discussion boards, and individual assignments that allowed me to apply my knowledge. In the future I hope to further my knowledge on the benefits of nutritional plans for my patients and apply in when working in the clinical setting.

Throughout this course we were required to complete a nutrition journal. This journal was a documentation of our own personal nutrition, where we identified two goals to work on throughout the semester. We also identified our own nutritional requirements, keeping track for three days our calorie intake, water intake, and the foods we consumed. Furthermore, we identified our own calorie requirements, vitamin and mineral requirements, and total daily requirements. I have attached my personal nutrition journal below.
