NURS 230: Foundations Nursing Practice

NURS 230 emphasized the importance of the nurses role in direct and indirect care of the patient that included health promotion, illness prevention, and basic care. The main focus of this class was on adults and older adults. Although many of these skills discussed in this class were review, we were able to take these skills further and understand the importance of screening, prevention, and treatment. This class allowed me the opportunity of actual clinical experience at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, VA. This was an amazing experience that allowed me to apply all the skills I have learned this far in the program including direct care with the patient, communication skills, and documentation skills.

During this class I was able to work alongside three other individuals in a research project that we presented at the research showcase. My group looked at the importance of patient satisfaction and if the title of the provider matters in patient satisfaction. Research is an ongoing process in nursing and through this project I recognized how important research is in the medical field related to patient satisfaction. In the future, my goal is to continue to research this topic and identify ways that I, personally, can have a positive impact on my patients and their satisfaction with care. I have connected our summary and poster that explains the data we collected from our research about patient satisfaction with care and the impact different medical professionals may have on this satisfaction.
