This class was based on learning how to assess a patient, including head-to-toe assessments and problem based assessments. Not only did this class encourage me to further my knowledge and apply the anatomy I had learned in my previous classes, but it taught and strengthened my skills on things such as vital signs, normal and abnormal findings, and documentation. I was able to learn the material in lecture and then was given the opportunity to apply these skills in lab each week.
In addition to physical assessments, it is important to assess family health history of patients as well. Prior to this class, I never realized how large an influence family history had on patients. This class furthered my knowledge on the importance of asking patients about their family health history and about family practices and beliefs. In the future, I will continue to further my knowledge on this topic and use my skills to provide quality care to my patients that aligns with their beliefs and attitudes. I had the opportunity to create a genogram of my own general family health history and I have attached a copy.
