Honors : Immunology
This course was completed in Spring 2021. The course objectives were to learn the basics on the immune system, mainly learning about the human immune system. How the immune system effects certain organs were also discussed as well. Since the course was mainly online, we didn’t get a proper lab section to do research. This caused the professor to find data on rare immune deficiencies and have the students try and figure out what the deficiency was through certain testing. Another project that was done was to find an immunotherapy for an autoimmune disorder, pathogen, or autoimmune disease. Students had to do research on the topic that was chosen and find a way to cure or minimize the symptoms of the topic. Both those projects that were completed are attached to this reflection.
This was one of my favorite courses by far. I was able to learn about the human body in more of a way that I would be using if I am going to be going to medical school. It was so interesting to be learning the molecular components of the immune system, and the larger, big picture functions of it as well. I was always looking forward to this class every time I went in, whether it was in lab or lecture. I would definitely take another course like this in my future if I could, or one that was more detailed.
