BIOL 251

This course was completed during my third semester, as a sophomore. The course title was Ecology and Evolution. Throughout the course, we learned the basics of ecology and evolution, the principles that explain the interactions between organisms and their environments. I enjoyed the course but didn’t learn too much that was a whole lot new because a lot of the terminology and/or concepts were either previously taught in one of my other biology classes or I had learned in before I came to college.

Below are two artifacts from this paper that we completed throughout this course. The first, called Human Demography Paper, was a research paper that we completed. The premise was that we went to a graveyard and counted up all the men and women, separately, and their birth/death dates. We then proceeded to separate them by “eras”, or a specific time frame of when these people died. We made graphs and looked at the results, writing the paper after analyzing all the data. I enjoyed writing this paper because it allowed me to realize how much medical technology is advancing our lives. The second artifact is a semester long project that I performed with three other people as well. We wanted to see whether the speed limit on a road affects the amount of roadkill that is found. I enjoyed doing this experiment because it was a hands-on activity outside of the science building, and it was an experiment that we created on our own, without the help of the professor. The artifact is a powerpoint that represents an oral presentation that we gave during our schools Research and Inquiry Showcase.
