MUSC 224

In the Fall of 2021, I took the Honor’s section of MUSC 224: The Appreciation of Music. This course focussed on many different time periods in which music changed, as well as the most prominent composers known in each era of music. We were tasked with learning and memorizing over 40 different composers, as well as many different pieces for our song quizzes. These quizzes were one of my favorite parts of the class, where we were challenged with identifying specific aspects of a piece to determine the title of the song, as well as the composer. I am proud to say that after a lot of hard work, I received a 100% on every one of these quizzes.

Another fun assignment during this course was a writing assignment specifically devoted to the time period where Beethoven became popular. My class was given an assignment of writing a first-person paper, acting as if we were attending the opening night of Beethoven’s ninth symphony in 1824. After some extensive research in our history textbooks, my paper detailed the many different points in the night, specifically the actual contents of the piece being played. The artifact below is that exact paper.
