Scholarship

Scholarship can be interpreted in many different ways. To me, scholarship refers to the level of knowledge that you possess, and the learning that has allowed me to gain that knowledge. The scholarship that Longwood has provided me has allowed to me to recognize my own potential, and to strive for more knowledge both in my school work, and as a person. For my major, scholarship has allowed me to begin my journey as a communication studies major, and learn as much as I possibly can so I am prepared for my future career beyond Longwood.

My sophomore year at Longwood created many opportunities to help me participate and better understand the scholarship pillar in the Cormier Honors College. The biggest example of this would have to be the internship that I had within the Honors College, where I ran the Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages for both the Fall and Spring semester. I learned so much about myself and how to work in a professional environment, and while I am very sad to pass this internship off at the end of the summer, I am extremely grateful for the many opportunities it presented to me, and the amount of knowledge I gained in the past year.

I plan to continue to improve my level of scholarship through my recent joining of the Lambda Pi Eta communication studies honors society. I have achieved the executive position of secretary for the organization, and I am thrilled to be able to work with like-minded individuals who share similar interests as me and reflect a similar level of academic drive.

The Cormier Honors College has allowed me to recognize my own potential, and apply my knowledge to important topics and honors classes that I have taken. They showed me the importance of learning and how to be excited about my classes. As someone who has always struggled to appreciate learning in the classroom, I can say with full confidence that the honors college has helped me gain this appreciation, and truly see the importance of education both at Longwood and worldwide.
