Pillar : Physics 115 – Astronomy

Physics 115, Astronomy, is taught by Dr. Kenneth Pestka. The course focuses on the inquiry applications of cosmic evolution. This includes essential astronomy, the evolution of planetary systems, stars and galaxies, the Hubble relationship, astrobiology, and the evolution of the universe and life. The course filled a pillar requirement under the scientific reasoning component and was taken during the winter intersession.

The course assigned textbook was Astronomy Today. We used the textbook alongside journals to gain a larger understanding of the information. Stellarium Astronomy Software is an online planetarium we also utilized throughout the course in order to visualize the atmosphere and beyond what our bare eyes can see.

Towards the beginning of the course, I completed an assignment that consisted of writing a short essay on any occurrence in space. Being that the Mars rover, Perseverance was being launched at the time, I wrote my essay about nothing other than the projected plans for Perseverance.
