Community

~We rise by lifting others~

“Community” was a term thrown around very often where I grew up, and when you are from a town of no more than 1,200 people, you could say that there is not too much privacy. It was not unusual for my town to have community fishing days, community bonfires, or even a community yard sale. So, when college came to mind, I knew there was no way I would be able to thrive in a large area because I needed to find a community that I could depend on.

CORMIER HONORS COLLEGE

The Cormier Honors College has shown me a strong sense of support of which I looked for. When  promotion of the Honors College occurs, it is made abundantly clear that community is a baseline for the lifestyle and education of students. Being a member of the Cormier Honors College has given me a group of supportive, encouraging, and up Cormier lifting friends and faculty. There is never a time I don’t exchange smiles and greetings with another member of honors on campus.

CHI ALPHA, LONGWOOD AMBASSADORS, LU ALTERNATIVE BREAKS

The Honors College has also given me the opportunity to find other communities on campus. Many honors friends and I venture to new groups in hopes to find more opportunities. It is nice to have a group already when trying new things so we do not feel alone. The Honors College created a sense of security by being my first community on campus. Now I am a member of Chi Alpha, Ambassadors, and Alternative Breaks as well as many other organizational communities at Longwood because of the community established in the first week of being a member of the Cormier Honors College.
