MUSC 331: History of Music was a course focused on the art music of western civilization from Antiquity to 1800. I was given the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge of the chronological and historical development of music from Antiquity to the end of the 18th century, correlate developments in music with developments in Western Europe’s general history and culture, demonstrate skills in information literacy by conducting undergraduate-level research in the field of music history, write about music within a historical context in a scholarly manner, participate in a discussion and oral presentation of scholarly research with classmates, and demonstrate a basic knowledge of the Western tradition’s canon of music literature. My interest in this course was minimal at the beginning because of my general lack of interest in music; however, this course pushed me out of my comfort zone as I tested, presented, and discussed material I was not familiar with. Below is an example of a well executed research paper done on Mozart and the Classical era.
