MATH 135
MATH 135: Mathematical Modeling of Finance was a very challenging course in terms of material in addition to learning habits. The typical class time would consist of a short, concise lecture followed by a worksheet. Once the worksheet was complete and checked over, we were free to go. I learned a few new study skills with this structure. Due to the short lecture, I had to learn to write detailed notes that made sense to me. It is one thing to write what is on the board, but if you do not understand it, it will not be helpful in the future. In addition to this skill, I had to get out of my comfort zone and ask for help often. There were many opportunities to work with peers, which I liked, but sometimes that hindered my own understanding of the material. The worksheets given after the instruction were a great way for me to reflect on my strengths and weaknesses with specific topics. I learned that asking for help and practice are worth the time if it means you are mastering all that the class offers. Below are two examples of the worksheets that were given after lectures.
