This course was completed during my second semester as a freshman. The course title was Intro to Genetics and Cell Biology. Throughout this course, I learned how DNA was made into proteins, how cells communicate, and the basic structure of a cell. I really enjoyed this class because it helped further my knowledge into the makings of an organism, and how they work. During the lab portion, we tested different types of yeasts on different organisms, specifically strawberries. Throughout the lab, there was testing done to gather the yeast from strawberries and then there were multiple different experiments that were done in order to determine what kind of yeast was on the strawberries and how it reacted to different environments. I really enjoyed this experiment because it helped me to understand that there is a complexity in biology that I hadn’t seen before. This lab took place over many weeks, and I realized that research projects, like this one, could take a long time to pursue and get data, or none at all. Attached is my final lab report for this experiment, explaining it further.
