Music 325: Music as an Agent of Change

This course focused on how music literally caused changed all over the world during the Vietnam war era. While mainly discussing America, we of course discussed Asia, and any other accompanying regions that were greatly impacted during this time. It was truly so fascinating to hear Dr. Kinzer discuss how rock and roll (and the many other genres before/after this time) left such major impacts on the people. We discussed things like The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Nancy Sinatra. All in all, I can confidently say that although the wartime period sucked, it truly produced some of America’s greatest music of all time.

Link In this paper I was tasked with writing a 5-7 page piece of 5 songs that changed American culture. I ended up writing about 16-17 pages. Not sure how. It just went that way. Looking into songs such as “Fortunate Son” by Clearwater Creedence Revival, “Like a Rolling Stone” by Bob Dylan, and “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye left me deeply inspired by the anti-war movements during the Vietnam-war era of the world.
