19-20:
Service is certainly an area I hope to dive deeper into with the upcoming years. This year I contributed a decent amount of help to service organizations, but I hope to do much more. My biggest contribution was with the FACES food pantry in Farmville. In short the organization helps provide ingredients and food for meals to members of the community in need. Although I essentially “had” to go, as it was required in a class for my major, I had a great time helping out. I also ended up going to a few Greek life events that had portions of the funding donated to different philanthropies and charities. Either way, I’m hoping to do more in these upcoming three years!
20-21:
This year I helped Walk2Campus assist hundreds of students with their move in. I got paid a small amount, but most of it was just freely giving my time. Within Theta Chi, I helped run a booth that raised over $500+. Also, I’ve continued working with the FACES food pantry, as they are in close cohorts with the Communications Studies minor. I’ve actually, no joke, recruited a ton of people into the major as well. Maybe I really am a good salesman, because I’ve convinced people to transfer from business, kinesiology, undeclared, and much more. Go Comm!
21-22:
More tabling. More booths. More FACES. More service. More awareness! For example, during the Fall ’22 semester, my fraternity (Theta Chi Longwood) did a sexual assault awareness booth fundraiser and tabling in association with RAINN. We gave out night caps for peoples’ drinks, wristbands, stickers, buttons, and so on.
