Goal 9: Study Abroad in Spain

Reflection

For my first study abroad experience, I travelled with the GenEd Summer Abroad in Spain group from May 15th through June 15th. I honestly didn’t expect to actually attend this trip at first. During my first semester, there was an interest meeting and I just went with the intention of seeing what study abroad trips were like. After that interest meeting, I fell in love with the program and immediately called my parents to let them know that I was interested. At first, they were a little reluctant to let me attend, but after seeing how serious I was about the program, they eventually gave in. At the time, I hadn’t taken a Spanish class in 3 years so my Spanish was a little rusty, but I was determined to gain my Spanish skills back before this trip. That next semester, I took my Spanish 202 class in order to prepare and I remembered why I loved the Spanish language. While the actual trip to Spain was a lot of work with all of the papers and assignments we had to complete, I still really enjoyed the trip. That was my first time in Europe and I plan on returning to Spain in the future. It also inspired my to keep up with my Spanish. While I don’t plan on pursuing a minor in Spanish like I originally intended, I do plan to keep taking Spanish classes over the summer to make sure I don’t lose my skills like I did previously.
