Education 245

Education 245 was an amazing introduction of what to expect in both my future honors classes as well as my future nursing classes.  Throughout the course there was great emphasis placed on the early stages of development of children and the theories that can be applied to the physical, social, and cognitive changes that children experience anywhere from birth to late adolescence.  Because of my interest in becoming a palliative care nurse after graduating, I wish that we could have focused on the later life stages that people experience and what affects things like memory and cognition in people’s later years.

One of my favorite things that we did throughout the course was the Three Ages Project.  For this assignment I interviewed three different children at ages 4, 11, and 14 in order to analyze the physical, social, and cognitive development of each child at each stage of life.  I aimed to ask questions that would allow me to understand what particular environmental and social factors led to the current state of the child’s development.  This was certainly a memorable experience that I hope you find as interesting as I did!
