HONS: Writing and Rhetoric ENGL 165 – 50

This essay I wrote on April 8th, 2019, was an assignment where we were assigned to write a personal essay on whatever we pleased. I wrote mine on the struggles of being a college softball player.

This essay was a huge milestone for me not just because I could see how far I had come from the beginning of the semester but also because in writing this essay, I learned a lot about myself too. This essay is really personal to me because it has been and still is my biggest struggle in school. I can deal with the 6 page papers and timed exams, but the mental aspect of playing softball is what has been giving me a run for my money. I was incredibly proud to turn in this essay for one because I felt like it was some of my best work; I was curious and anxious to see if my professor thought the same. He did. While I did feel as though it was my best work of course there were things I could have done better. For example, I might have been able to include more similes and metaphors like we were asked or maybe I could have made it more fluid sounding. In the future I could read through it one or two more times out loud to see if everything sounds as I wanted it to. In all, this project was a huge marker for me in showing that I have improved from the beginning of the semester and that it helped me learn more about myself in the softball aspect.

Just a snapshot into my time at Longwood!
