World Language perspectives

ASL 210 – American Sign Language

I took ASL 210 in the spring semester of my junior year. I have loved learning not just the language but learning about the culture as well. Before taking this class I knew some about the Deaf community and the difficulties they faced, however, I now feel much more versed and aware of things that happen in the world.

This document is a short reflection of a film we watched in the class about a hearing woman who was born to deaf parents. It goes through her life struggles including feelings of embarrassment and how to live her own life while still being there for her parents. I loved this movie and the assignment because it opened my eyes to a world other than my own. It helped me appreciate small things and not take the things I have in my life for granted.

Just a snapshot into my time at Longwood!
