This assignment is one I am most proud of for my first semester of college. Coming from high school I didn’t think my writing was my strongest suit, and doing so well on this essay and getting a good note from my professor really boosted my confidence going into my other classes. I chose to take this English class because I really enjoy reading good literature and love learning about it. This class kept me on my toes because we read books in a topic I don’t usually read. The class was focused on frontiers, and we read books focused on exploration of new lands, however I really enjoyed the final project that asked us to write about a new frontier in our field.

This paper in particular was focused on comparing how the explorers in each book behaved differently and how that affected the outcome of their journey. Some focused on religion, some were harsh to the natives, and some understood that they were simply there for exploration and discovery. In this essay I was able to make connections not only within the books and their respective explorers, but with the world as it is today. Connecting the fact that treating new people and new cultures with respect and understanding will lead to faster and more peaceful conflict resolution.
