BIO 114

This class was taken the first semester of my sophomore year.  This was one class that I really enjoyed because I have always loved biology and I had a great professor as well.  It was a class that definitely challenged me as there was a lot of specific information about different organisms and the environment that I needed to know for tests and quizzes but I loved learning more about the world we live in.  One of my favorite parts of the class was that every Friday we had a biologist in the building come to our class to tell us a little bit about themselves.  I found this very interesting as I felt like I really got to know more about the other professors in Chichester and got to have a small introduction to different areas of science.  I also really loved how my professor would occasionally explain different ways we could take the information we learned from the class and incorporate it in lesson plans.  I felt like I really gained a lot of great knowledge on the topic all while feeling confident enough to take some of the things I learned from this class and include it in my classroom in the future.

The artifact for this class was our Group SOL Lesson that we taught to elementary school students.  For our group, we had Science SOL 3.5 which was about food chains/pyramids, and we were instructed to create a lesson to teach to students that were going to come from one of the surrounding counties.  We created a presentation to show our group of students to review food chains/pyramids, played a cup stacking activity, incorporated two worksheets, and ended with playing a jeopardy game.  This was a great experience as we were able to take what we have learned in our class and apply it to teaching lessons to students just like we will do when we graduate from Longwood.
