This class was taken the second semester of my sophomore year. I was a little nervous but also excited about taking this class as I don’t listen to music very much but I thought it would be fun to learn more about a topic I don’t know much about. This class was challenging for me at first because I didn’t realize that the tests and quizzes were going to be extremely specific so I ended up having to completely change the way I studied for the class. Once I had learned from my mistakes, I actually did really well in the class and learned a lot about the history of different songs, musicians, and how it all tied in with the Vietnam Era. I loved how the class didn’t just focus on the music but we actually learned how it influenced and changed America during that time of war as well. I am glad I ended up taking this class as it enabled me to learn more about how music acted as an agent of change along with getting a chance to experience different topics I haven’t learned about before.

The artifact for this class was our final copy of our Agent of Change Research Paper. For this paper, we were instructed to choose five songs (only three could be ones we covered in class) that were influential and had a huge impact on American society during the Vietnam Era and do an analysis of them to explain their significance during that time period. This paper was very interesting, but also challenging as we had to take everything we had learned from the class and apply it within our paper. At the end of the paper, it was very eyeopening to realize how all of those songs and their artists during that time came together to create such a powerful movement and affect the society in the United States in such a drastic way.
