Chemistry 111
Fundamentals of Chemistry I
I took chemistry 111 in the Fall of 2019 with Dr. Porter. I yet again was not too enthused to take this class, but I ended up enjoying it. When I took chemistry in high school I did pretty well up until the last few units. My experience taking it a Longwood was much the same. However, I liked it far more than I did in high school. Many of the labs were similar, but I felt that I understood more of the material than I did previously. I typically found myself excited to go to the class, especially the labs, which was a bit uncharacteristic for me. In the class, I definitely learned more in regards to writing lab reports. I don’t recall ever writing one before, but rather filling out a worksheet on the lab. Bellow is my last lab report of the Fall 2019 semester. I chose to include this as my artifact because it shows my improved lab report skills, but also room for improvement. This was not my best lab report, however, it was the largest one, and I think it’s important to include this particular report because not every assignment is perfect. That is what chemistry 111 taught me: I can’t always be perfect. In labs, there is always a little bit of unpreventable error. I had to learn to accept this and that not every assignment is going to garner a 100. I will be continuing my education in chemistry with chem 112, and I’m looking forward to it.
The artifact above is my last lab report in chemistry 111, and is titled “Evaporation and Intermolecular Force.” The lab was conducted by my lab partner, Mari, and I. The report was written by myself on December 12, 2019. This assignment is crucial to me because it not only shows my growth as a chemist but also where there is room to improve upon that.
