Quantitative Reasoning

Math 171

Statistical Decision Making

I took math 171 in the Spring of 2020 with Professor Huyveart. I will admit, that I was not looking forward to taking this class. Math has never been a strong suit of mine and I don’t enjoy it. But this class allowed me to discover something I never thought would interest me, a statistical research analysis. We had to do two of these throughout the course, although the directions and rubric were difficult to understand. The task of creating this analysis wasn’t especially easy, but I quite enjoyed the process. This assignment, by all means, was the only part of the class I enjoyed. I’d like to say I learned something meaningful or important in this class, but in all honesty, I didn’t. The class, overall, was a bit uninteresting and the professor was not kind by any means. My artifact bellow is the one somewhat good thing that came from the class. I do believe that if I had a different professor that I might’ve enjoyed the class more, as the professor basically stoped teaching after we left and we had to teach ourselves. However, I am going to continue with statistics in math 301, with hopes of a better learning experience.

The artifact above is my first research analysis, which is titled “Observational Study of Longwood University Sophomores and Juniors on Height and National Health Insurance.” It was written by Tucker Marshall on March 31, 2020. This assignment is important to me because it was the only one I actually enjoyed.
