Spanish 111

Intensive Beginning Language & Culture

I took Spanish 111 in the Fall of 2019 with Professor Rosado-Figueroa. My initial thoughts on continuing learning Spanish were not positive ones. Throughout my high school career, I was not particularly great with foreign languages, and I was expecting much of the same at Longwood. After a week in this class, my views on how it would proceed changed. Profesora Rosado was the first teacher, of any level, that genuinely cared about the students’ understanding of the course material. She was unbelievably helpful and understanding. When no one was able to understand an assignment, she would double back to make sure we understood the actual language rather than getting the work right. All she cared about was our success and our ability to learn and understand the material. Profesora Rosado had so much belief in me. She constantly encouraged me, and even told me that I should minor in Spanish. Without her, there was no way I was going to do well. Rosado taught me to believe in myself, even when I wasn’t successful in the past. That little bit of belief she gave me showed me that I am capable of so much more than I think. This course taught me to trust in myself and my abilities, which is something I was not familiar with. I am immensely thankful for all that she taught me. The artifact below is a picture of my table group with Profesora Rosado. If you ask me, we were her favorite table. We all got tiny sombreros and planned to wear them on Fridays, to make the 8 am class more fun. Unfortunately, we always forgot to bring them, so this is the only day we all wore them. This picture is important to me because it captures the fun spirit of the class and is simply a good memory.

The artifact above is a picture (from left to right) of Professor Rosado-Figueroa, Tucker Marshall, Trevor, Amber Louk, and Jaiden. This was taken September 27, 2019, and is titled “Friday.” This is an important photo as it is one of my favorite memories from the class.
