Honors Sociology 331

Sociology 331 is a course that discusses aging and the impacts that aging has on our society.  After talking with my professor, I decided to enhance this course. For our honors enhancement, a group of honor students volunteered for the “pit count” at STEPS,  a non-profit organization that offers a wide variety of different services to people in need in Farmville. On the night that we volunteered, we rode in vehicles and visited the different towns located in Prince Edward County. The goal of the pit count was to look for homeless individuals so that they could fill out a form to get funding for STEPS and provide those individuals with resources like proper housing or clothing and food.  Although we did not find any homeless individuals, we did get to see the behind-the-scenes of how STEPS helps the Farmville community.  After completing the pit count, my group was tasked with creating a poster that would help to explain what steps does and how we help in the pit count.
