Community

Community is perhaps the pillar that means the most to me. It is the group of people who either together, or individually, work to help support you when you need it. You are there for them when they need it in turn, and both benefit mutually. A Community can also come together to make change happen and positively impact others in the Community.

I have been so incredibly lucky to find my way into the Community at Longwood. At Longwood, I am a part of several smaller Communities like the Honors Student Association and Delta Sigma Pi, which each have their own different goals with members who come together to achieve them. They can overlap, but as a whole, they are always part of something bigger. Community is something that is empathized more at Longwood than at most other colleges. Being there to help others and wanting to be a part of something bigger are traits that are found in almost every Lancer, and that is what makes Longwood unique.
