In this course, we studied significant stylistic eras, major composers and compositions within the Western European concert music tradition. Through the study of several films, we learned the importance of music in plot development in movies and how it acts as a supporting character.
The paper I have included below is a copy of my final research project that was completed over several weeks. I had to find a composer and relate one of their compositions to my field of study. As a Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing, I decided to study the music score that composer Sergei Prokofiev wrote for the film Alexander Nevsky which became a key piece of Russian propaganda during World War II. I studied the music throughout the movie and analyzed how it contributed to the propagandistic message. It was an extremely fascinating project and showed me just how important music can be when trying to convey a certain message to a target audience.
