This class is titled Climate Fiction and Eco-Poetics. I took this class online over winter break. This course focused on climate fiction, which is a new genre of narrative that uses fictional stories to depict and discuss climate change issues. I am very passionate about nature conservation and slowing climate change and I am also an avid reader and writer, so this class was highly interesting to me. It offered an entirely new perspective on climate change that could resonate with many more people. The class was highly discussion based, so the other students and I were able to share our thoughts and realizations together. This was beneficial because I was able to understand concepts in way that I would not have though of and think about opinions that were unique to me. Throughout the class each student had to do a personal project. I chose to do a photo journal of nature. Each day, I would take a photo of some sort of nature around me and write about my reflection of the photo. By the end of the class I had a journal full of reflections and realizations. This was very helpful to me in making bigger connections and realizing the impact climate change has on macro and micro scales. I wrote a paper reflecting on my project and how this tied in with the class and connected to the climate fiction books we read. The essay is included below. While I was already an advocate for climate change action, this class made me realize just how important it is and what I can really do to help.
