This class was titled Lancer Launchpad and it was one of the most unique and educational classes I have ever taken. It was taught be Professor Dolence. He first taught us how to think in a unique way that breaks down the obvious of an issue or a topic. We learned how to understand something in its parts and how these parts come together to create a whole. He also used class activities to help us learn that two things that seem completely unrelated can be used together to solve a problem. For example, we learned how broken down car parts can be used to create cheap infant incubators. We were then tasked to identify an issue that was apparent in our lives or the communities around us. This became the basis for our Senior Symposium projects. My group decided to focus on the overwhelming level of stress many students feel on campus. Professor Dolence then taught us how to create feasible solutions to our real world issues that we could actually implement. My group decided to create a destress room open late into the night for all students to help reduce overwhelming stress and its negative consequences. We got permission to have access to a study room in the library. We then raised money by selling fidget toys and used the money to purchases relaxing items for the room. We then set the room up for a week and collected data from the students using a survey. We presented our project at Symposium Day. Professor Dolence also taught us how to present in a more attention catching way that will resonate with the audience. He also taught us how to appeal to the masses in advertising a product or idea. His class taught me an entirely new way of thinking and allowed me to use my intelligence and creativity in a very thoughtful and meaningful way. I found his class profoundly beneficial and interesting and I know I will use these lessons in all aspects of my adult life. I have included below the poster I created to advertise our destress room to students and faculty around campus. I specifically used techniques Professor Dolence taught us to create a captivating and easy to understand poster to gather more attention to our room.
