Spanish 111 was my first Spanish class in about 4 years (junior year of high school) making it a bit hard to relearn everything I had forgotten. Over my time in the course, I was able to remember the things I had learned before with help coming majorly from the small talking assignments in class. One major issue with the class was that the vocabulary we were learning didn’t always lend itself to speaking more fluently or allow us to navigate a conversation without knowing another word so it continued to sound very awkward when speaking without preparation. Then even with preparation, the speaking was not always great either as there were many terms we hadn’t used before (that were necessary to look up for the assignment) which made the flow become off-kilter. This problem was not too bad throughout most of the class, usually only needing a few extra words, until the final project where we had to make a video instructing how to make a dish in Spanish. This project took me a long time to find the words and make everything come together, it also took around 3 takes for the entire process and multiple retakes of sections to get everything sounding correct. This may have been because I didn’t choose a dish such as grilled cheese but there were stipulations on how many new words were needed, how long the process needed to be, etc., which I was not too far above and beyond. I felt that the class didn’t entirely prepare us for that final assignment.
Below you will find the recipe for the aforementioned final project video. You can see that the ingredients chosen ranged from well known in Spanish (for 100-level students) like huevos duros to ones that I had no clue how to pronounce like cucharaditas de ajo picado. Also, note that the instructions (below the ingredients) was not the entire script for the video, there was more connecting the parts together but I no longer have the paper the script was written on.
