Journal Entry One

The score of my Leadership Potential assessment was 41. The scores I received for the Managerial Leadership Skills assessment are as follows Technical: 17 Interpersonal: 17 Decision making: 25. The results of both assessments reveal that I have a decent leadership style. I usually find myself in leadership roles within group projects and conversations. I tend to try and take charge subconsciously I have to take a step back when it is not my place to lead. I can see how these assessments correlate to the leadership style I am capable of possessing.

My strengths are being able to be that person that is needed in the situation. If a leadership is needed, I will take on the role without being asked. This is something that I think I just acquired when my mother was diagnosed. Although this experience sucks, it has taught me many qualities of a leader. Areas that I need to improve on is being a better follower. There are only a few people in this world that I would follow willingly and without question. A few of those people are my professors, Elaine, and Lacie. I used to follow my mother but since she is impaired compared to before I tend to lead her. The roles have been reversed.

My ultimate goal in life was to work within the department on violence against women within the department of justice. This goal has shifted as working at the department of social services has helped me discover that micro is where I would prefer to be. Through this I will be able to apply this information into my career and work as a social worker. Leadership is important when being a client’s advocate. My leadership style can contribute within the field and office of where I end up at.
