Hello, my name is Hannah Jane Simmons. I have an Associates in Arts and Science and I am currently a senior at Longwood University. Through Longwood, I will be graduating in May 2021 with a bachelors in social work. I am currently applying to graduate school in order to obtain my Masters in Social Work to then start my journey to become a licensed clinical social worker.
I have faced many tribulations and have dealt with these trials with resiliency in the process of obtaining my goals. I have gained experience throughout my life that has helped me towards having a successful social work practice. I am in the National Honor Society and the Social Work Honor Society, Phi Alpha. I have volunteered at Madeline’s House, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Farmville Community Garden, Andy Taylor Fundraiser, and participated in breast cancer walks and suicide prevention walks. I gained knowledge and insight with first hand experience at the Department of Social Services. While there, I mainly worked along side the Child Abuse Investigator on visits and in the office took on any task that anyone offered. In the Spring of 2021, I will be a clinical intern at Childhelp where I will be shadowing therapists and completing essential tasks. Childhelp is an inpatient psychiatric facility on equestrian farm and I will be exposed to many different parts of the clinical experience while interning.
I am interested in all types of social work but my dream is to be a licensed clinical social worker with the ability to give therapeutic support. I have always been passionate about the concept of therapy and how mental health needs more advocacy. I hope to make a difference in people’s lives through my education that I am and will be acquiring, as well as my experience in field.
