My name is Jace Frank and I am a honors student majoring in theatre. I have a concentration in design and technology as a Bachelor of Fine Arts student. I am incredibly in love with theatre and the theatre building is where I can be found most days of the week. Through my first semester at Longwood I was very closed off and found myself being very distant from a lot of people. This was simply because of fear that they would not accept me for who I am. As I journeyed into my next semester I was able to settle into my environment and feel comfortable in my place here at Longwood.
My Sophomore year started off with stage managing the show Translations. This year was a great year for me professionally as I was able to take a lot of leadership roles in the theatre with holding a crew head position on every show. This year will be marked by a time of great change and struggle as I kept building on myself to figure out who I am supposed to be in this world. I also joined two great greek organizations one being Alpha Psi Omega (Theatre Honors Fraternity) for which I will serve as president this upcoming year and Gamma Psi where I am currently historian. This next year will serve as more progress in my professional world as I continue to take on leadership positions in the theatre, serve as head tech for Longwood Company of Dance, and take skills that I learned from my internship to bring back to school. I am excited to see what this next year will bring.
My Junior year was not what I expected it to be at all and I think most can relate to this statement. First semester was pretty good as I was active in all of my organizations and maintained good grades. I was in charge of tech for a huge high school theatre festival which was one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done. I was able to study abroad over the winter intersession in Costa Rica which was an experience unlike any other that I have had. I stage managed our production of Chicago which was bigger than I could have ever imagined. Then shortly after Chicago ended is when things took a turn. During the production, we were all worried about the flu not even aware of the pandemic that was brewing. I stayed at Longwood for a while until there was no choice, but to go home. I managed to get all A’s this semester, but it was not what I wanted or expected my education to be like. As we continue to battle through this pandemic I have been trying to make art and keep up my skills whenever possible. I hope to return in the fall as I am apart of Mortar Board now as well as continuing to serve as president for Alpha Psi Omega. I have a lot of things that I would love to do with my senior year, I just hope that I can fulfill them.
