Service

Service has always been an important part of my life. My mother used to give my sister allowance once a week, and we had the choice to put our money in three envelopes. One was for spending, one was for the bank, and one was for charity. As I got older, service hours became somewhat of a chore for my peers, but I had been doing service without considering it as a chore, but as a choice to make the world a better place. By the age of 17 I had created an organization dedicated to bringing mini pillows to hospital to comfort older children in hospitals and gone of three mission trips, one of which went to the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Even in quarantine I have been gathering food for food banks, who had suddenly started having a much higher demand due to COVID-19. One of the many things I love about Cormier Honors College is the focus on service. When we went to work with horses during the honors retreat I remember having a great experience and having so many volunteer opportunities on campus has made my time at Longwood more enjoyable.
