Goal 5-Statistical Decision Making (MATH 171)

Statistical Decision Making was a course I took for general education goal 5 (mathematical thought) of my major in biology.

Math was never a subject that brought much excitement to me throughout school. However, after completing this course I was able to reevaluate my preexisting attitude towards mathematics. I largely credit this to professor Wears and how he approached teaching us in this course. He treated the course material as tools that we would learn how to use and then apply to the real world. My first impression of statistics was that it was just a tool for sports or businesses to predict outcomes or evaluate players. However, after learning how these statistical tools could be used to create information significant for many more applications, i was instantly drawn in with excitement. Being a biology major I realize how important statistics is when it comes to determining how significant certain data collected in experiments. I chose my final project because it showcases how exactly these statistical tools are used in accessing data. After this course I will without a doubt use these tools in my future studies to further my education.

Below is a copy of my final project, assessing the significance of data collected concerning U.S. coin currency circulation.
