SOCL 331-50

Honors Aging and the Life Course, Dr. Pederson, Spring 2019

This course is a requirement for nursing majors and goes along with our nursing course about gerontology (Nursing 370), which I took over winter break. I was not sure what to expect with this course, as I had not previously taken any sociology courses at Longwood. As the course is called Aging and the Life Course, we talked a lot about the aging process, life transitions, theories, and much more. Learning about the life course from a sociological perspective helped me better understand aging from a holistic perspective, rather than just a nursing perspective. Throughout the semester, we had 10 Thinking About Aging assignments, which really made me think about the class content and the questions being asked. For the honors portion of the class, we were required to transcribe two interviews completed by groups of students in Yellowstone National Park. We also had a final project, which consisted of an interview, transcription, poster, and presentation. For my artifact, I have attached the poster I created and presented based on my interview and transcription.
